Sunet Boat Trip in Luang Prabang, 4 Oct

We found an agency and booked three trips for just twenty dollars each--a two hour boat trip on the Mekong during sunset, a boat trip to the Pak Ou caves, and a van ride to the waterfall.
I called it a cruise until I saw the boat we were on--four passenger seats and a driver seat--definitely a boat ride, not a cruise. But it was interesting to ride a relatively small boat up the Mekong and observe fishermen in much smaller boats.
As we pulled out there were workers terracing the banks. I think the banks are pretty torn up during the rainy season and they have to replant something to maintain the banks as much as possible.
At the point where the two rivers meet, and the end of the pennisula, we observed children playing among the fire. The farmers seem to use fire quite a lot--I guess they are burning up brush. We can't do this in Texas, it is to dry and would quickly get out of control. But here where it is so wet I think a controlled fire is much easier to maintain.
Note the place where the waters meet--the muddy Mekong and the clear tributary river.
A small boat operated by a fisherman.
This boat seemed to have a motor to drive it.
He was pulling his net out of the water.
Luang Prabang as we reapproached it.
This should have been the beautiful sunset we had seen the night before, but unfortunately it was too overcast so we just got the mist.
