Yesterday we went out (via the city bus) to the monastery to deliver the laptop that I brought to give them. My mother stayed out there for several days prior to my arrival. When she first went there she was sick and the nuns there were very kind to her. It is in a peaceful location, much quieter than the District 1 hotel neighborhood. The nuns are a Benedictine order started in the 50s by a woman from France. A few of them speak English and most of the speak French.
My mother has gone out now to see an accupuncturist recommeneded to her by one of the nuns. She has slipped right into the life here in HCMC.
We are leaving for Danang tomorrow, though I think we are actually staying in Hoi An. My mother wants to attend the baptism (Catholic) of a young woman she met while she was in that city. We will come back to HCMC on the 4th of September.
It is difficult to work the blog page because the instructions and links are in Vietnamese. I studied the language a long time ago in college but I am far from fluent. I am working more from memory on what button to push.

about Blogger instructions in Vietnamese...we had that problem too until Jon Fordham gave me a clue. If you sign in to blogger as you usually do to create a post, you'll go to the "dasboard" screen. There, in the box on the top of the right side of the page you'll find three bullets. The first is "edit profile," the second is "my account," and the third is a drop-down box where you can select your language. If you change to English, you'll be good to go.
I love reading about your adventures! Keep them coming.

Scott,
Sandy and I have been missing you around here, but we've been so busy that this is the first day we've had time to check in on your trip. Sounds good so far. That was a really nice thing for you to do for the nuns. And by the way, your Grandmother doesn't look her age at all, so I see where your mother gets her youthful looks as well!
Can't wait to see more pic's and see you both with Henry. Hope you have a safe trip to Hoi An and back. Will be checking the blog again soon. Happy traveling!
Iva and Sandy

Here's a hug to both you and Betty.
